Which is better, chrome plating or nickel plating? What is the difference? Advantages and disadvantages, as well as price and cost of each?

Chromium plating and nickel plating are commonly used processes for metal surface treatment, and there is a significant difference in performance between the two, which can affect their selection in different situations. In actual processes, the performance of nickel plating will appear more excellent, which is reflected in the following aspects:
In terms of adhesion with the substrate, the nickel plating layer is superior to the chromium plating layer.
Nickel plating is also superior to chromium plating in terms of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
The nickel plating layer has good ductility and toughness, and will not easily produce cracks and peeling phenomena.

Chromium plating is superior to nickel plating in terms of wear resistance, and its price is relatively low, with a high cost-effectiveness. In situations where the protection requirements for parts are high in design, nickel plating is generally chosen. It should be noted that equipment design is not absolute, and the selection of surface treatment during design should also follow the principle of color uniformity.

Chromium plating is commonly referred to as electroplating chromium plating, which is usually decorative chromium plating. One method is to increase surface hardness by plating hard chromium, but it has many advantages and disadvantages, so it is often not used.

The advantages of chrome plating: good surface smoothness without rusting, and small deformation of the original parts during the plating process. If the size of the parts is not in place, chrome plating can be used to solve the problem. Usually, a certain margin needs to be left for chrome plating of parts. The surface is relatively beautiful, and generally chrome plating is used for bathroom decoration.

Disadvantages: in chrome plating, the price is relatively high and post-plating processing is difficult, making it unsuitable for use in complex parts. The thickness is relatively thin and requires high surface roughness of the parts.
